Copy the middle finger dunk AI prompt below into an image-to-video tool that takes reference photos. We ran it once in Wan 3.0 with two photos, so you can see what it got right, what it missed and what to change. Rather not write a prompt? Make it here from one or two photos; the court, the crowd and the moves come from the trend's own clip.

The full middle finger dunk AI prompt

Paste this into an AI video tool that takes reference photos, add the dunker's photo first and the defender's second, and set the shape to 9:16. If your tool names the photos something other than Image1 and Image2, change those two words. In our run the model got most of it, but not the finger during the dunk (see below).

For a tool that takes one photo, drop the Image2 part and describe the defender in words instead, for example "a tall defender in a black long-sleeve shirt". We have not run that version.

Prompt

Vertical 9:16 handheld phone video of a pickup basketball game on an outdoor court at night, filmed from the sideline under bright floodlights, with a crowd standing along the fence. One continuous 9-second shot, real phone footage. Image1 is the dunker and Image2 is the defender; keep each person's face, hair and clothes from their image the whole time. 0-4 s: the dunker dribbles toward the hoop and crosses over the defender, who backs up and tries to guard. 4-6 s: the dunker leaps and dunks with one hand while the other hand flips the middle finger; the defender jumps under the hoop and gets dunked on. 6-9 s: the dunker lands, turns to the camera and flips the middle finger with a grin while the crowd cheers; the defender stays under the hoop. Exactly two players on the court, five fingers on each hand, no captions or on-screen text.

  1. The camera — "Handheld phone video", "filmed from the sideline" and "one continuous shot" give it the look of a clip someone filmed at the court.
  2. The two roles — "Image1 is the dunker and Image2 is the defender" says who does what, and "keep each person's face, hair and clothes" is there to stop them drifting.
  3. The timeline — The timed parts set the order: crossover, dunk, finger to the camera.
  4. The clean-up line — "Exactly two players", five fingers and no captions are there to cut down extra people, warped hands and stray text.

What the middle finger dunk prompt asks for, and what Wan 3.0 made of it

Three beats in the prompt, one real run: here is which beats Wan 3.0 followed when we gave it two portrait photos.

The 9 seconds, beat by beat

If your tool takes shorter clips, keep the order and squeeze the timing.

  1. 0 s–4 s

Dribble toward the hoop and cross over the defender, who backs up.

  2. 4 s–6 s

Leap and dunk one-handed, finger up on the other hand; the defender jumps and gets dunked on.

  3. 6 s–9 s

Land, turn to the camera and flip the middle finger while the crowd cheers.

Our run in Wan 3.0

Mostly right: both players kept their look, the night court and crowd were there, and the finger to the camera landed at about 7 seconds. The dunk itself is where it slipped; see Missed below.

Fixing common problems with the middle finger dunk prompt

These are starting points to try. Change one thing per run, so you know what helped.

  • No middle finger during the dunk

    Try next
Give it its own sentence: "as the ball goes through the hoop, the dunker's free hand is raised with the middle finger up"
    Leave alone
The finger-to-camera part, if it worked
  • The wrong person dunks

    Try next
Check the photo order: the dunker's photo first (Image1), the defender's second, and name the dunker again in the dunk line
    Leave alone
    The rest of the timeline
  • A second ball or extra players appear

    Try next
Add "one basketball only" next to "exactly two players"
    Leave alone
    The camera line
  • Clothes you weren't wearing appear

    Try next
Use full-body photos, or name the whole outfit in the prompt
    Leave alone
"Keep each person's face, hair and clothes"
  • The finger looks like an index finger or a fist

    Try next
Spell it out: "middle finger extended, the other fingers folded"
    Leave alone
The grin and the turn to the camera
  • The tool rejects the prompt or leaves out the gesture

    Try next
Drop the finger lines and add the gesture with a sticker in your editor, or use photos here, where it is already in the clip
    Leave alone
    Everything else
